Believing in your chances to forge your own path
Discover the journey of Guillaume Clément, IT contract manager. Living with a neuromuscular disease since middle school, he managed to adapt, study all the way to Sweden, and prove his skills to build a solid career spanning over twenty years. A story of perseverance, teamwork, and autonomy.
Timeline
Chronological journey
Adapting from high school

Adapting from high school
Having grown up in the Pas-de-Calais region, Guillaume followed a standard education until middle school, when a neuromuscular disease emerged, requiring him to use an electric wheelchair. For high school, facing the lack of accessibility at the local establishment, he had to leave his familiar environment. He joined a high school in Villeneuve-d'Ascq, moving into an adapted boarding school during the week. This first step marked the beginning of his ability to adapt in order to keep moving forward.
Engineering studies all the way to Sweden

Engineering studies all the way to Sweden
Far from holding himself back, Guillaume pursued demanding higher education. He joined the Mines Télécom school in Lille to become a telecommunications engineer. After five years of study, he decided to broaden his horizons and went to Sweden for an additional year. There, he earned a master's degree in business management, taught entirely in English. An enriching international experience that consolidated his technical profile.
Overcoming the obstacles of a first job

Overcoming the obstacles of a first job
Upon his return to France at age 24, finding his first job proved complex. For nearly ten months, Guillaume faced a double challenge: finding companies with physically accessible premises and confronting prejudices. During one interview, he was even denied a position on the assumption that he wouldn't have the necessary energy. But Guillaume persevered, convinced of his abilities, and was eventually hired by Belgacom France, a company that chose to believe in his skills.
Twenty years of growth within a major group

Twenty years of growth within a major group
After four years at Belgacom, Guillaume joined the IT department of the Auchan group, where he has been evolving for twenty years now. Far from stagnating, he seized opportunities and demonstrated his ability to change roles over time. Initially hired as a technical engineer, he became a project manager, then expanded his scope to IT infrastructure, before moving into his current position. A great proof of continuous progression.

His job
Guillaume is currently a contract manager within the IT department. He works in a team to monitor the lifecycle of nearly 400 subcontracting agreements. His daily routine consists of tracking deadlines, assessing risks, and collaborating closely with legal experts and buyers. He ensures that each contract meets expectations before being presented to management for signature, renewal, or termination. It is a job that requires rigor, strong analytical skills, and a great team spirit.
His commitments and values
For Guillaume, work is much more than just an occupation: it is a true vector for social integration and financial autonomy. He places great importance on teamwork and human connections. His message to young people is a call for self-confidence: it is essential to believe in your own chances to convince others, to never give up in the face of rejection, and to always prove your worth once you walk through the company's doors.

What Guillaume Clément shares:
"The first ones to believe in our chances are ourselves. If we don't believe in our chances, we won't be able to make others believe."
"For me, work is also a vector of integration. An opening to the world, a motivation, a social bond."
"I know that once, during an interview, I was told I wouldn't be hired because they thought I would be too tired... Which was absurd since it was up to me to judge my ability to handle the job."
