The weaver of submarine connections
From one end of the planet to the other, our messages, videos, and searches travel beneath the ocean at the speed of light. In Calais, Alexe ensures that these immense optical fiber cables are absolutely solid to connect all of humanity.
Timeline
Chronological journey
The spark of curiosity

The spark of curiosity
Growing up in a family that loves to understand the world gives you wings. With a thermal engineer father in Moselle, a doctor mother, and two sisters who chose medicine, Alexe developed a boundless curiosity very early on. She loves working with her hands: she sews her own clothes, makes jewelry, and even took up the traditional violin, which she learns entirely by ear, from musician to musician, without any sheet music. For her, every new skill is a joyful challenge to take on.
The great journey of learning

The great journey of learning
Her thirst for discovery pushes Alexe to explore the world. After starting her plastics engineering studies in Strasbourg, she decided to cross borders. She flew to Canada for a semester of mechanical engineering studies, then went all the way to China for her final year project, where she worked on the automation of testing tools. These travels taught her to adapt, speak other languages, and approach technical problems from every possible angle.
The highways of the deep sea

The highways of the deep sea
After rewarding experiences in aerospace in the Drôme region and then in hydrogen in the heart of the Jura, Alexe settled in Calais at Alcatel Submarine Networks. It is here, facing the sea, that nearly a third of the planet's submarine internet cables are manufactured! Within a team of six people, she works hand in hand with technicians, production, and quality control. Her role? To follow the creation of new cable models, launch prototypes, and ensure they will withstand the extreme pressures of the ocean floor.
Forging her path and inspiring others

Forging her path and inspiring others
Entering the industrial world is not always smooth sailing, especially when there are still too few women in it. Sometimes faced with clumsy attitudes, Alexe has managed to forge her own path with strength and independence. One day, during a Blablacar ride, she chatted with a passenger who introduced her to the Femmes Ingénieures association. That was the turning point. Today, Alexe visits middle and high schools to share her journey, convinced that every young girl should be able to dare to enter technical fields without hesitation and bring her perspective, experience, and skills to the table.

Her job
Alexe is an industrial engineer. Her role is to ensure that the submarine optical fiber cables, which lie at the bottom of the oceans to make the Internet work, are perfectly manufactured and ultra-resistant. She creates prototypes, devises rigorous tests, and solves technical problems so that the global connection never drops.
Her commitments and values
Committed to the Femmes Ingénieures association, Alexe visits middle and high schools to pass on her passion and encourage young girls to dare to pursue technical fields. Convinced that the diversity of profiles is an immense strength that boosts innovation and productivity in companies, she advocates for kindness, mutual aid, and autonomy. Her key message to future generations: move forward step by step, with confidence, without letting fear hold you back.

What Alexe Guiguemde shares:
« My job is to make sure that the way we manufacture products ensures they work well. »
« What interests me is seeing problems, figuring out how to solve them, and adapting new solutions. »
« You have to move forward with caution, but without fear, and above all without closing any doors. »
